Who We Help

Location – La Saona

For the past 20 years, the Center has been located in La Saona, one of Baní’s poorest barrios (neighborhoods). In this community of over 2,000 people, mortality rates for infants and children are comparable to those in the most impoverished areas of the world. La Saona does not have consistent access to electricity, a reliable supply of clean water, or safe roads. Most houses are made of tin, lack plumbing, and do not offer adequate shelter during storms. There is no public transportation. Jobs are scarce, wages are low; families struggle to pay for the most basic needs.
